A Typical Reiki Session
A typical Reiki session is done with an attuned Reiki Master to receive the most benefits out of any healing session. It should occur in a quiet space with proper low lighting, and ventilation. The appearance and fragrance of the room should illuminate peace and nature. Soft music without words can be played as background sound to help the client relax. Most practitioners use a massage table with pillows under the knees, clean sheets, and heating blankets to ensure the client is warm and comfortable for the duration of their appointment.
The Reiki session consists of 12-16 hand positions where the Reiki Master will focus and channel Reiki energy, universal life force energy, sacred energy, Qi (kee), or Prana; starting from head to toe. The appointment begins with the client lying face up (supine) and ends laying face down (prostrate) for the remaining hand positions. The Practitioner may also work on releasing energy from the spine while the client lies in the prostrate position. The signature Reiki hand positions cover the seven main chakra points, the eyes, the ears, the joints, and the souls of the feet. The Reiki practitioner will intuitively feel how long to stay in each position. Usually, 3-5 minutes will activate and cleanse the area unless cutting energetic chords and extra cleansing needs to take place in any area of the body or aura. The Reiki master may use common Reiki symbols on the client during sessions to release, manifest, and seal certian energies into the client. Stones, crystals, therapeutic essential oils, tuning forks, and/or singing bowls may be incorporated into a Reiki healing session to elevate the vibrational healing qualities for the client.

During the “laying of the hands”, the practitioner may hover the hands or place them gently on the client. Reiki is a physically non-invasive therapy that takes place with the eyes closed while breathing slowly through the nose. The Reiki client should quickly and easily enter a meditative healing state while lying on the table. If the client is distracted by their thoughts, they can focus on their breathing or the music in the background. Once waking consciousness is transcended the client may feel warm, tingling, pulsing sensations where the Reiki master is channeling energy. Memories and emotions can surface during a session that may or may not be pleasant. As the client, it is best to take things as they come and innocently put one’s awareness on the experience. Pure awareness will dissolve and release negative emotions leaving the client with eternal peace and bliss.
